Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS) Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion (DEI) Statement
At the Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS), we are unwavering in our commitment to fostering a culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within the field of nursing research and scholarship. We draw inspiration from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Statement of Support for DEI in advancing our mission to promote excellence in nursing research, scholarship, and practice.
The AACN Statement provides a powerful framework for our DEI commitment, and SNRS pledges to align our efforts with its principles:
Diversity in Membership and Leadership: SNRS recognizes that diversity encompasses a broad range of identities and experiences, including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, religion, and socioeconomic background. We actively strive to cultivate a membership and leadership structure that reflects this rich tapestry of diversity, ensuring a multitude of perspectives within our organization.
Equity in Access and Opportunities: SNRS is dedicated to creating an equitable environment where every nurse researcher, regardless of their background or identity, has equal access to resources for research, opportunities for dissemination, and professional development. SNRS pledges to identify and dismantle barriers that may impede the progress of underrepresented groups.
Inclusion in Research and Scholarship: Inclusion is fundamental to the advancement of nursing research. SNRS is committed to fostering an inclusive research community where all voices are valued and respected. SNRS supports research that addresses health disparities and the unique needs of diverse populations.
Cultural Competence and Education: SNRS recognizes the importance of cultural competence in nursing research and practice. We support ongoing education and training for our members to enhance their cultural competency and promote understanding of diverse perspectives.
Accountability and Continuous Improvement: SNRS is committed to regularly assessing our progress in achieving our DEI goals and holding ourselves accountable for creating a more inclusive and equitable research society. We will continually adapt and refine our strategies to promote diversity and equity within the nursing research field.
By embracing the principles and emphases of national nursing organizations, SNRS reaffirms its dedication to advancing nursing research that promotes health equity across the lifespan. We believe that diversity and inclusion are essential drivers of innovation, excellence, and the advancement of nursing science. Through our collective efforts, we aspire to contribute to a future of nursing where nursing research addresses the unique needs and perspectives of all individuals and communities.
