"Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximize their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be." Eric Parsloe, The Oxford School of Coaching & Mentoring
About the SNRS Mentorship Program
The SNRS mentorship program is for the purpose of providing support and guidance to PhD nursing students, junior faculty and new Nurse Scientists. Mentors will advise the mentees on professional development appropriate to their level, career development opportunities, career transition from pre-doc to 1st position, critical thinking, strategies for navigating the PhD student journey, etc. PhD student mentees will have their institution advisor, therefore, there will be no expectation for mentors to provide feedback on scholarly products, such as dissertations, abstracts, etc.
Mentors must be doctorally-prepared, PhD or DNS and at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, or a Nurse Scientist with 5 years of experience in nursing research. Retired members are especially encouraged to participate. The program period will be September 1, 2020 – August 31, 2021. Mentors will be expected to interact with their assigned mentee at least once monthly, through face to face or electronic methods. The next call for mentees/mentors will open in mid-July/early August of 2020.
