SNRS 2016 Keynote:
Ann Cashion, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been named the Scientific Director for the NINR Division of Intramural Research (DIR). For the past year, Dr. Cashion has served as the Acting Scientific Director for the DIR and before that time, she was a Senior Advisor to the Office of the NINR Director. Before coming to NIH, Dr. Cashion held the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Acute and Chronic Care in the College of Nursing, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN. Dr. Cashion has received several honors for her work and is well known nationally and internationally.
Dr. Cashion’s previously funded research and clinical interests target genetic/genomic and environmental components associated with outcomes of organ transplantation. In her last funded study, she combined emerging technologies (microarrays) and behavioral questionnaires to investigate gene-environment interactions leading to obesity in recipients of kidney transplantations during the first year after transplant.
Dr. Cashion is on the Board of Directors for the Alumni Association of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellows program and the Institute of Medicine Roundtable on Translating Genomics –Based Research for Health. She served as co-chair of the Genetics Expert Panel for the American Academy of Nursing and received the International Society of Nurses in Genetics Founder’s Award in recognition of outstanding genetics research and scholarship.
