Research in Clinical Settings
Research in Clinical Settings Blog
Welcome from Cathy Campbell, Chair and Diane Chlebowy, Chair-elect of the Research in Clinical Settings Research Interest Group. The purpose (Our MISSION perhaps) of the Research in Clinical Settings RIG is: to promote excellence in research in the diverse clinical settings of our members. We are creating a community of researchers who will share best practices and lessons learned in the conduct of research, and celebrate the success of the members of the RIG. We are living in interesting times and research in clinical settings is more important than ever before. Please join us on this journey.
We offer networking opportunities, peer support, and inspiration to others interested in this area of work and research. We encourage all members to participate. We welcome all interested parties in our area of work--researchers, clinicians, academicians, and students to our RIG. Be sure to “sign-up” by logging in to the Members-Only section and choose which RIG(s) to join. There is no fee to participate and you can join up to three RIGs as part of your membership benefits. Just “click” on the topic and the Resource Center will do the rest!
We met at the 2009 Annual SNRS Conference in Baltimore. We discussed the following:
- How to revitalize our RIG
- Shared research challenges in clinical settings
We have not had any recent activities. We are looking forward to seeing our members in Texas for 2010 Annual SNRS Conference.
Greetings from Cathy Campbell, Chair of the RIG on Research in Clinical Settings. I am an assistant professor on the tenure-track at University of Virginia’s School of Nursing (UVA) and teach in the undergraduate program and in the Clinical Nurse Leader Program. My clinical and research focus in end-of-life care. I worked in hospice for 15 years before joining the faculty at UVA. I am currently a co-investigator for a research study with Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida, one of the largest providers of rural hospice services in the country. We are comparing satisfaction with hospice care between rural and urban hospice patient/families. I am also planning a study to explore the pain management learning needs of nurses in SW Virginia.
My interest in clinical research has come from challenges in getting my own program of research started at UVA. Gaining access to clinical settings that provide care to people with a life-limiting illness has been very challenging. I am eager to learn from what others are doing and build a community of researchers.
My spare time is spent watching the Blue Ridge Mountains, doing crossword puzzles, and watching Dancing with the Stars. I look forward to seeing everyone in Austin!
